Usually you’ll hear from external plural resources that most people refer themselves as a “system”, containing multiple “alters” or “switches”, who “front” to express themselves through the physical body they all share.
Here this is the same idea for our community, but we don’t use most of these common terms. We sincerely believe that everyone should be perceived as real existences and not reduced to an “alter” treatment, even if that means living in an “inner world”.

You may be able to use general terms for most pluralities, but it’s best you ask them directly, because everyone works differently. If you try to use a general term for us, even though they can probably be compared to other pluralities, in most cases it just can’t be applied to us.
For example we aren’t considered as “alters” in a “system”. You may be tempted to say things like “who’s in your system?” or “what alter is fronting?” which seems fine to say when you didn’t know; we’ll likely correct you.
But if you use these terms in a purely offensive or uncaring way, then no, their usage won’t be tolerated, as you can’t just call us what we aren’t because you decided to without respect on others.
